So, the next step to my new series begins in my trusty art journal, which serves as a vital foundation for my creative process. Here is where I meticulously nut out compositions, ideas, themes, colours, and various other elements that will inform my artwork. This journal is not just a collection of notes; it is a sanctuary for creativity; a safe space where all ideas have potential, and nothing is left out. In this realm, no idea is considered a dumb one, allowing me to explore the full spectrum of my imagination without fear of judgment or limitation.

I absolutely love this stage of my artistic journey, as it gives me permission to go absolutely berserk with my creativity. It’s a time when I can let my thoughts run wild and truly come up with some - at times - rather insane ideas that might seem unconventional or even outrageous at first glance.
The freedom to experiment and play with concepts is exhilarating, and it often leads to unexpected revelations and innovative directions for my work.
As I delve into this creative process, I find myself combining some writing with bursts of inspiration drawn from the world around me. Whether it’s the vibrant colours of a stormy rainbow, the intricate patterns found in rocks and trees, or the emotions evoked by a the song of birds, these external influences feed my imagination and help me develop my themes further.
Additionally, I often incorporate incredible photos that I have collected over time, both my own and ones sort with permission, which serve as visual stimuli to spark new ideas and perspectives. Each photo becomes a part of the idea and a reference for colour, or light, or composition.
This initial phase is crucial, as it not only helps me to clarify my thoughts but also to visualize the potential of my series. I often find myself sketching out rough drafts of compositions, experimenting with various colour palettes, and jotting down notes about the themes I want to explore.
The act of putting pen to paper is cathartic; it transforms fleeting thoughts into tangible forms, making them easier to refine and develop into something more substantial. This exploration is not just about creating art; it’s about understanding my own artistic voice and discovering the stories I want to tell through my work.
Overall, this stage in my art journal is where the magic begins. It’s a dynamic and fluid process, filled with spontaneity and excitement, laying the groundwork for what will eventually evolve into a cohesive series. Each entry is a stepping stone, guiding me closer to the final pieces that will emerge, and I cherish every moment spent in this creative sanctuary.

After finishing the mural on the wall, I find myself contemplating the next steps in my artistic journey. The possibilities for my next creation are numerous, and I am considering what direction to take.
At first, my intentions seem straightforward, but the creative process often leads to unexpected paths filled with both surprises and challenges.
This idea has been on my mind for several months. It is inspired by the beauty of nature, particularly the experience of walking among waterfalls, moss-covered trees, and ancient logs. I can envision the stunning views from the mountains of Tasmania, where the landscape is both majestic and serene.
I have sketched a few thumbnails that capture the scenes I wish to create. Additionally, I am considering incorporating my concept of mythical Dragons of the Tasmanian landscape into this project. The combination of the natural beauty of the landscape with the fantastical elements of dragons is an exciting prospect. The journey ahead is uncertain, but that is part of the creative process—embracing spontaneity and inspiration as I explore new ideas.
Stay tuned!
